DISCOVERIES AND LEADS

It was almost four in the afternoon when Lipinski met with Mel and Ken and received information about the two women they had followed. They also provided photographs and GPS data about the two sites visited by the women. Their surveillance revealed that the estate was large and well-guarded by sophisticated security systems. The farmhouse was close to the estate and was probably the home of the heavy-set man with the Range Rover. The drone had recorded the license plate and took several photographs of the heavy-set man. Lipinski thanked Mel and Ken and said electronic payment for their services would be wired to their numbered accounts. “Stay in the area,” he told them. “I’ll need you for a few more days.”

After Mel and Ken left, Dale called Angie and Kemena to inquire about their investigations and learned they had much to share. He told them to come to the safe house and offered to buy Chinese takeout. Kemena arrived first and helped Dale set the table. A few minutes later Angie arrived and commented that she could smell the Peking Duck from half a block away. While they ate, Lipinski shared the information and photographs gathered by the drones. Angie let out a laugh and said, “That masseuse isn’t a woman.”

“What!” exclaimed Kemena.

“I ran the prints we got off the Chevy and checked them through our databases. He’s transgender. His real name is Maurice Shorensen and he served six years in the Air Force as a communication specialist.” She handed three documents to them with biographical information about Shorensen, including his social security number and a copy of his most recent Virginia state tax return. She pointed to the tax form and said, “He lists total income as $48,000 from doing massage and physical therapy. He leases the massage parlor from a commercial property company.” She paused to sip some wine. “The company that owns the building with the massage parlor is incorporated in Delaware, and just happens to be part of a large conglomerate that has a controlling interest in commercial real estate in the DC area, and leases commercial vehicles.”

Lipinski asked if the other properties were linked to the conglomerate. He was not surprised when Angie said yes. “What about the woman with the Audi?” he asked.

“Her name is Meredith Coleman,” Angie told them, “and she’s self-employed as an interior designer. “She has no priors, not even a parking ticket. I was able to get her social security number, but that’s about it.” Dale took the information on Coleman for Katla to do a scan on her.

“Well,” said Lipinski as he cleared the table, “we have quite a bit of information about the moles, their initial contacts, and now these intermediaries.”

“And all of the contacts and information flow ends up at that large estate in western Maryland,” added Angie. “Now that we have the location, I’ll find out who owns the place.
